Speech Therapy at Aakanksha
Communication is the foundation of human connection and at Aakanksha, our Speech Therapy Department is dedicated to empowering individuals with speech, language and communication challenges emanating from their Intellectual Disabilities. Our comprehensive therapy programs cater to a wide range of needs, fostering confidence and independence in every individual.
Speech and Language Development
- Enhancing comprehension through interactive storytelling and question-answer exercises
- Expanding vocabulary with concepts such as opposites and short sentences with visual aids
- Encouraging expressive communication through greetings, emotions and daily needs identification
Social Interaction & Play Skills
- Developing turn-taking, reciprocity, and eye contact through structured play
- Teaching essential life concepts like money handling and safety awareness
- Facilitating group therapy for improved social engagement and peer interaction
Feeding & Oral Motor Skills
- Strengthening oral muscles through targeted exercises for chewing, swallowing and sucking
- Enhancing facial coordination with specialised massage techniques
Aphasia Therapy
- Supporting individuals with speech and language impairments through structured conversations, reading and writing exercises
- Implementing mindfulness and relaxation techniques for improved cognitive processing
Hearing Impairment Therapy
- Facilitating auditory-verbal and non-verbal therapies to enhance sound awareness and speech recognition
Articulation & Pronunciation Correction
- Addressing speech sound disorders, including substitutions, omissions and distortions
- Implementing tongue exercises and open-mouth techniques for improved clarity
Voice Therapy
- Strengthening vocal quality through breath control, phonation and voice modulation exercises
Fluency Therapy for Stuttering & Stammering
- Enhancing speech fluency through guided breathing techniques and structured reading exercises
Swallowing Disorder Management (Dysphagia)
- Applying oral motor techniques and swallowing manoeuvres for safe and effective feeding
