Understanding Deafblindness

Deafblindness or multi-sensory impairment (MSI), is a unique disability that combines hearing and vision loss, affecting communication, mobility and access to information. People with deafblindness require specialised support and tailored interventions to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

Our Commitment to the Deafblind Community

As a Deafblind Regional Centre (East Region) in collaboration with Sense International India, Aakanksha Lions Institute of Learning and Empowerment is dedicated to supporting individuals with deafblindness across East U.P., Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal.

We provide specialised training, intervention programs and assistive technologies to empower children and adults with deafblindness, ensuring they can communicate, learn and develop essential life skills.

Our Service for the Deafblind

We offer comprehensive support through

1. Early Identification & Intervention

  • Surveys to identify children with deafblindness
  • Parent counselling and awareness programs
  • Sensory stimulation (vision, hearing, and touch-based therapy)
  • Clinical and functional assessments
  • Individualised Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation


2. Education & Skill Development

  • Home-Based & Center-Based Services tailored to individual needs
  • Admission support to inclusive and special schools
  • Academic intervention programs
  • Pre-vocational and vocational training
  • Income Generation Activities (IGA) to promote financial independence


3. Assistive & Welfare Services

  • Assistive devices for communication and mobility
  • Guidance for disability certificates, pension schemes and concessions
  • Disability rights awareness and legal aid


4. Advocacy & Sensitisation

  • Training for NGOs, educators, medical professionals, and government staff
  • Community awareness campaigns to promote inclusion
  • State & regional advocacy meetings to strengthen policies and networks
  • Parent support groups for shared learning and empowerment

Our Impact
