Highlights from 2019-20: A Milestone Year
The financial year 2019-20 marked a significant chapter in our 25-year journey as we celebrated our Silver Jubilee.
Here’s what we accomplished:
- A Legacy of Hope Recognszed: On November 22, 2010, the late Hon. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, visited Aakanksha and inscribed the words, “Great Institute of HOPE.” In 2019-20, we honoured his vision by launching the International Conference under the banner of HOPE — Humanity, Optimism, Perseverance and Equality.
- International Conference on Developmental Disabilities: To commemorate our Silver Jubilee, we organized a groundbreaking event titled "Developmental Disabilities and Inclusive Strategies for Sustainable Developmental Goals" in Raipur. This conference brought together global experts, educators, policymakers and parents to discuss inclusive education, employment and reducing inequalities — key pillars of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key dates included:
- Global Voices of Change: We welcomed renowned international keynote speakers:
- Prof. Richard Rose (University of Northampton, UK) shared insights on inclusive education and children’s rights.
- Prof. Stephen Shore (Adelphi University, New York) inspired us with his expertise on autism and special education.
- Prof. Tariq Ahsan (University of Dhaka, Bangladesh) highlighted equity and teacher preparation in education.
